Satellite TV engineers in Upminster
Upminster’s leafy roads are lovely to live on and awkward for satellite dishes. A dish only works if it can see a narrow patch of sky to the south-east, and a single oak or a row of conifers in the wrong place can block it. Trees grow, too, so a dish that was fine ten years ago may now flicker every time the branches move. Finding a clear line, and aligning the dish to it with a meter, is half of what we do.
Across RM14 we put up new Sky and Freesat dishes, shift existing ones for extensions, solar panels and re-rendering, replace LNBs that have failed, and wire multi-room systems so every TV in the house can use one dish. We also take down dishes that are no longer used and make good the wall.
Satellite services in Upminster

Sky dish installation
A dish with the right LNB for your Sky Q boxes and the number of rooms that need them. Moving to Sky Glass or Sky Stream instead? They come through your broadband, so the dish becomes optional: keep it for Freesat, or have us take it down.

Freesat installation
Freesat brings the main channels and HD with no subscription at all. It is a useful back-up to the aerial and a simple way to give a garden room or annexe live TV.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
If the picture goes in a shower, or one tuner keeps losing channels, the dish may have moved or the LNB may be on its way out. Readings tell us which, and we re-aim the dish or fit a new LNB to suit.

Moving a dish
Dormer conversions, rear extensions and solar panels often leave a dish in the wrong spot. We find it a new home where nothing blocks the south-eastern sky, run fresh cable and seal the hole.

Multi-room and communal satellite
A multiswitch gives every box in the house its own clean feed from a single dish. It suits larger family homes and the small blocks of flats near the station.

Foreign-language satellite
Want TV in Italian, Polish, Greek or Turkish? Those channels sit on Hotbird and nearby satellites, and a second dish beside your main one can pick them up.
When your box says ‘no satellite signal’
In Upminster the most common cause is the view itself. A tree that has filled out over the summer, a neighbour’s extension or new scaffolding can all get between the dish and the satellite. After that come dishes nudged by wind or workmen, LNBs that have reached the end of their life, and loose plugs or failed multiswitches indoors.
Switch the box off at the wall for a minute, and check it isn’t simply a cloudburst or snow on the dish, which pass on their own. If the warning keeps coming back, we trace it from the dish to the box and put it right, usually on the same visit.

Where can a dish go on an Upminster house?
Your dish must face open sky to the south-east, which rules out north-facing walls and spots under tall trees. On most Upminster houses a dish goes up without any planning application. Conservation areas are the exception, and RM14 contains three of Havering’s, at Corbets Tey, Cranham and North Ockendon, and stricter again for listed buildings. In those places we look for a side or rear position that still sees the satellite, and we’ll tell you if Havering Council should be asked first.

Upminster questions
My satellite picture has got worse over the summer. Why?
Usually a tree has grown into the dish’s line of sight. Trimming it, or moving the dish to a clearer spot, normally fixes it.
Is a dish still needed for Sky?
For Sky Q and the older boxes, yes. Sky Glass and Sky Stream get everything through broadband. Switching? Leave the dish in place and a Freesat box will use it with nothing to pay each month.
Can you move my dish for a loft conversion or solar panels?
Yes. We lift it off, pick a fresh spot with an open view south-east, lay new cable and line it up again by meter.
Is planning permission needed for a dish in Corbets Tey or Cranham?
Both are conservation areas, so the rules on dishes, especially those visible from the road, are tighter. Most other homes in Upminster don’t need permission. We’ll suggest a discreet position.
Can you fit a dish for channels from abroad?
Yes. Hotbird carries hundreds of European channels, and a dish for it can normally share a bracket or a wall with the dish you already have.
