Sky and Freesat dishes for Woodford Green
In Woodford Green the hardest part of fitting a dish is often finding open sky. Satellites for Sky and Freesat sit low in the south-east, and between the forest, mature garden trees and tall neighbouring houses, a clear line can be hard to come by. We survey for it with a meter, so the dish ends up where it works in every season, summer leaves included.
Across IG8 we put up Sky and Freesat dishes, shift them for extensions and roof work, replace failed LNBs and set up multi-room systems for large houses and converted flats across IG8. We also take care over how a dish looks on a period house, which matters in a conservation area.
Satellite services in Woodford Green

Sky dish installation
A dish and LNB for Sky Q or an older Sky box, with an output for each box. Sky Glass and Sky Stream use broadband and need no dish, so if you’re moving to one of those, the redundant dish can come down or stay up to feed a Freesat box.

Freesat installation
Live TV from satellite with no subscription. Where trees shade the aerial signal from Crystal Palace, Freesat can be a steadier way to watch, as long as the dish itself has a clear view.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
Does the picture vanish in a downpour, or does one tuner drop channels? The dish has usually been nudged or the LNB is wearing out. We realign it on a meter and fit a new LNB where needed.

Moving a dish
Extensions, re-roofing, rendering and growing trees all push dishes into new positions. We find a spot with open sky to the south-east, ideally out of sight from the road, and re-run the cable neatly.

Multi-room and communal satellite
A multiswitch can feed several rooms in a large house, or several flats in a conversion, from one dish. It avoids a row of dishes on a period frontage.

Foreign-language satellite
Hotbird and similar European satellites carry channels from across Europe and beyond. We aim a dish at them, fitted next to your main dish or on a single dish with two LNBs where that works.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
Under Woodford’s tree cover, the usual cause of a lost satellite picture is growth: a branch that has crept into the dish’s line of sight over spring and summer. Gales knocking dishes off target and LNBs failing with age come next. Indoors, a loose cable at the box or a failed multiswitch shows the same message.
Switch the box off and on at the socket, and check that snow or a heavy downpour isn’t the cause, as both clear by themselves. If the message returns, we trace the fault and fix it, moving the dish if a tree has taken its view.

Finding a spot for a dish on a Woodford home
From Woodford Green the satellites sit to the south-east, and getting a view of them often means looking past trees as well as buildings. Planning permission isn’t usually needed, though stricter rules apply in conservation areas, including Woodford Green, Woodford Wells and Woodford Broadway, especially for a dish on a chimney or on a wall or roof slope facing the road, and for listed buildings. We look for a position at the side or rear, or low in a garden, that keeps the frontage clear, and flag anything Redbridge Council might need to see.

Woodford Green questions
My Sky picture got worse over the summer. Why?
Most likely a tree has grown into the dish’s line of sight. Satellites sit low in the south-east sky from here, so a branch some distance away can block them. We can move the dish or raise it to clear the trees.
Will Sky still need a dish on my house?
Only for Sky Q or an older Sky box. Sky Glass and Sky Stream arrive through your broadband instead. If you switch, the dish can be kept for Freesat.
Can a dish go somewhere less visible on my house?
Usually, yes. A side wall, a rear stack or a low pole in the garden can all work, as long as there’s a clear view to the south-east. We check with a meter before fixing anything.
Do I need planning permission in the Woodford Green conservation area?
Often not, though conservation areas have tighter rules, especially for dishes on chimneys or facing the road, and for listed buildings. A position at the back of the house usually avoids the issue.
Can I get channels from other countries?
Yes. A second dish, or an extra LNB on your existing one, can pick up Hotbird and other satellites.
