Dishes fitted, moved and repaired across Chigwell, Grange Hill and Chigwell Row, with multi-room systems for larger homes and shared dishes for blocks of flats.

Sky and Freesat dishes in Chigwell

Satellite TV relies on a clear line of sight to the Astra 2 satellites, which sit above the equator at 28.2 degrees east. From Chigwell that means a dish looking south-east. Greenery is what most often gets in the way here: tall leylandii, mature oaks and the woodland around Chigwell Row can grow into a dish’s view over a few summers until the picture starts to fail.

We fit new Sky and Freesat dishes, realign dishes that have drifted, swap failed LNBs, and move dishes for extensions and re-roofing. For large homes we design multi-room systems that feed every box from one dish, and for the blocks at Limes Farm and Grange Hill we repair and upgrade shared satellite systems.

Sky dish installation

A dish and LNB for Sky Q, with enough outputs for the boxes in your home. Sky Glass and Sky Stream run over broadband with no dish, so if you’re moving to one of those we can remove the old dish or leave it up for Freesat.

Freesat installation

Free-to-air satellite TV with no subscription and a full programme guide. It suits a garden office or annexe far from the aerial, and it’s a good fallback where trees weaken the terrestrial signal.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement

Pictures that vanish in a shower, or a Sky Q box that loses one tuner while the rest carry on, usually mean a dish that has crept off target or an LNB near the end of its life. We re-peak the dish on a meter and change the LNB when it’s worn.

Moving a dish

Extensions, loft conversions, new render and solar panels often leave a dish in the way. We choose a fresh mounting point that still sees south-east, tidy the cable route and make the wall entry watertight.

Multi-room and communal satellite

Multiswitch systems let several boxes share one dish without conflicts. They suit Chigwell’s larger homes, and the shared blocks at Limes Farm, where one dish array can serve many flats.

Dishes aimed at Hotbird for Italian, Greek, Polish and other European channels, or at another satellite where you need it, set up beside your main dish when space allows.

When the box says ‘no satellite signal’

That message is usually telling you about a problem outdoors. Wind can twist a dish on its bracket, roofers and scaffolders sometimes knock one, LNBs wear out, and trees close the gap to the satellite a little more each year. Indoors, a loose plug at the back of the box or a failed multiswitch gives the same warning.

Try restarting the box at the wall, and wait out any heavy rain or snow on the dish. If the message stays, we can find the cause and fix it, on any dish whoever installed it.

Where a dish can go in Chigwell

From Chigwell a dish needs an unblocked view to the south-east. For most houses that counts as permitted development, so no application is needed. The exceptions are the Chigwell Village conservation area, designated by Epping Forest District Council, where dishes seen from the road are more restricted, and listed buildings such as the parish church of St Mary and Ye Olde King’s Head, where consent comes first. On a large plot there is usually a rear elevation or an outbuilding that works, and we’ll flag it if a call to the council is wise.

Chigwell questions

Do I still need a dish for Sky?

Only for Sky Q and older Sky boxes. Sky Glass and Sky Stream work over broadband with no dish. If you switch, the dish can stay and be used for Freesat.

Trees have grown in front of my dish. What can be done?

Either the trees are cut back or the dish moves. A higher spot on the wall, a pole, or the other side of the roof often clears them. We check the view with a meter before moving anything.

Can one dish feed every room in a big house?

Yes. A multiswitch shares one dish between several Sky or Freesat boxes, each with its own feed, so recording on one doesn’t interfere with watching on another.

Do I need planning permission for a dish in Chigwell?

Usually not. In the Chigwell Village conservation area, and on a listed building, a dish facing the road needs more care. We’ll pick a position that keeps you on the right side of the rules.

My Sky picture drops out whenever it rains. Why?

A dish set up properly has a margin that rides out normal rain. Losing the picture in light or moderate showers means that margin has gone, usually through a small shift in aim or a worn LNB, and a visit puts it back.
