Satellite dish engineers for Ilford
Satellite TV depends on a dish holding its aim at a fixed point in the southern sky. On Ilford’s busy rooftops, dishes get nudged by wind, by roofers and by scaffolders, and a small shift is enough to make the picture fail in rain. We set each dish up on a meter, so it has signal to spare, and we check the cable and LNB while we’re there.
We fit new Sky and Freesat dishes on houses and flats across IG1, IG2, IG3 and IG6, move them for loft conversions and extensions, replace LNBs and build shared systems for blocks and converted houses. If you’d rather have one dish on the building than a row of them, we can design that too.
Satellite services in Ilford

Sky dish installation
A dish and the right LNB for Sky Q or an older Sky box, with outputs for every box in the home. Sky Glass and Sky Stream run over broadband and need no dish, and a dish you no longer use for Sky can stay up for Freesat or come down.

Freesat installation
Free-to-air satellite TV with no monthly charge. Near Ilford’s taller blocks, where the aerial signal can be shadowed or full of reflections, Freesat is often the steadier source of live channels.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
If the picture goes every time it pours, or one room loses channels while another doesn’t, the dish has probably moved or the LNB is failing. We realign on a meter and swap the LNB where needed.

Moving a dish
Loft conversions, rear extensions, rendering and new windows leave a dish in the wrong place. We pick a new spot with a clear line to the south-east, refit it and seal the cable entry.

Multi-room and communal satellite
A multiswitch lets several boxes or many flats share one dish. It’s the tidy answer for converted houses and blocks, and we can add new outlets to an existing system.

Foreign-language satellite
Channels from many countries, carried on Hotbird and other satellites, through a second dish or a dish fitted with extra LNBs. Tell us what you want to watch and we’ll check which satellite carries it before we fit anything.
Satellite faults in Ilford homes
A ‘no satellite signal’ message nearly always has an outdoor cause: a dish knocked off target, an LNB that has failed with age, or something new in the way, such as a tree in leaf or a fresh extension next door. Indoors, a cable pulled from the back of the box or a failed multiswitch in a block gives the same message.
Try a restart at the wall socket first, and check the weather, as a heavy downpour or snow on the dish clears on its own. If the fault comes back, call us and we’ll trace it.

Dish positions and permission
Satellites sit in the south-eastern sky from here, which can rule out some walls and gardens hemmed in by taller buildings. Planning permission isn’t normally required for an Ilford house. Rules are stricter in conservation areas, such as the one around Valentines Mansion and its park, where a dish on a chimney, or on a wall or roof slope facing the road, usually needs permission. Listed buildings need consent, and in flats the lease often requires the freeholder’s agreement. We’ll suggest a sensible position and flag anything Redbridge Council may want to approve.

Ilford questions
Why does my satellite picture break up in heavy rain?
Rain weakens the signal slightly. A dish that’s aimed precisely rides it out, so if yours drops out in every downpour it has probably shifted or the LNB is wearing out. A realignment is the usual cure.
Is a dish still required for Sky TV?
Sky Q and older boxes need one. Sky Glass and Stream come through your broadband. If you’ve switched, the dish can be kept and used for Freesat.
Our block has a dish on every balcony. Can you fit one shared system?
Yes. With the freeholder’s agreement, we fit one dish and a multiswitch, run a cable to each flat and remove the old dishes. It looks tidier and each flat gets a reliable signal.
Will Redbridge Council need to approve my dish?
Usually not. Conservation areas, such as around Valentines Mansion, and listed buildings have stricter rules, especially for dishes on the front. We’ll suggest a position that avoids trouble.
Can you install a dish for foreign channels?
Yes. We set up dishes for Hotbird and other satellites, often next to your Sky or Freesat dish.
