Satellite engineers in Maldon
Out here, satellite TV often makes more sense than in many Essex towns. On the far side of the Dengie, aerial signals from Sudbury get weaker, and the Burnham relay only carries the main channels. A dish pointed south-east across open marsh and farmland, on the other hand, usually has an unbroken view of the sky. It still needs to be aimed precisely, and the wind off the water is quick to shift one that isn’t fixed firmly.
We install Sky and Freesat dishes, move them for building work, replace corroded LNBs and set up multi-room and communal systems across CM9 and CM0, for homes, flats, holiday lets and caravan parks. If you’ve switched to Sky over broadband and wonder what to do with the old dish, we can advise on that too.
Satellite services in Maldon

Sky dish installation
Sky Q still takes its channels from a dish, and the LNB we fit depends on how many tuners and boxes the house runs. Sky Glass and Sky Stream need broadband, not a dish, so a redundant dish can come down or stay on for Freesat.

Freesat installation
Free live TV with no subscription, and a dependable choice for Dengie villages and waterside homes where the aerial picture is patchy or limited to the main channels.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
Losing the picture in showers, or one box failing while another works, usually means the dish has been blown out of line or the LNB is going. Salt air speeds that up. We realign by meter and fit a new LNB where needed.

Moving a dish
Re-roofing, an extension, new render or a row of solar panels can leave a dish in the way. We rehang it where it still sees the south-east, with fixings that suit an exposed wall, and seal the cable entry.

Multi-room and communal satellite
Multiswitch systems for flats, larger homes and holiday parks, so many boxes or units share a single dish without signal problems.

Foreign-language satellite
Channels from Poland, Italy, Romania, Turkey and further afield come from Hotbird and other satellites over Europe. We aim a second dish, or a dual-feed set-up, alongside your main one.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
That on-screen warning nearly always traces back to the outside wall. Gales off the estuary shift dishes, seabirds perch on the arm, hedges spread across the dish’s view, and LNBs suffer from damp and salt. Inside, a plug worked loose at the back of the box or a dead multiswitch shows the identical warning.
First, switch the box off at the socket for a minute and wait for heavy rain or snow to clear, as both pass. If the message returns, we can usually find and fix the fault in one visit, including swapping a corroded connector.

Where can a dish go?
Your dish has to see the south-eastern sky with nothing in between. On most houses it counts as permitted development, though conservation areas and listed buildings have stricter limits. Maldon District has several, including Maldon itself, Heybridge Basin, Burnham on Crouch and Tollesbury, and the old High Street has many listed buildings. We’ll suggest a discreet position that still works, and tell you when to check with Maldon District Council first.

Maldon questions
Is satellite better than an aerial on the Dengie?
Often, yes. Freesat or Sky gives you the full range of channels where the aerial signal is weak or limited to the Burnham relay’s main channels. A dish only needs a clear south-east view.
We’re moving to Sky Stream. What happens to the dish?
Sky Stream and Sky Glass run over broadband, so they don’t use it. You can have it taken down, or keep it and plug in a Freesat box for free channels. Sky Q, by contrast, still relies on a dish.
Why does my dish keep losing signal in windy weather?
On exposed walls near the water, a dish on a light bracket can flex in gusts or creep out of line. We refit it on a stronger bracket and realign it with a meter.
Is a dish allowed on an old house in Maldon?
Usually not, but in the Maldon or Heybridge Basin conservation areas, or on a listed building, it may be needed for a dish visible from the road. We’ll suggest a suitable spot.
Can we watch Polish or Italian TV by satellite?
Yes. Those channels come from Hotbird. We can set up a separate dish or add a second LNB to your current one if the view allows.
