Satellite engineers in Chelmsford
A satellite dish is a precise piece of kit. It has to point at a satellite more than 35,000 kilometres above the equator, and being a degree or two out is enough to lose the picture every time a heavy shower rolls in over the Chelmer valley. That’s why we align every dish with a meter rather than by eye, and why a dish that has slowly drifted is one of the most common call-outs we get.
We install new Sky and Freesat dishes, move dishes for extensions, loft conversions and rendering work, replace failed LNBs, and fit multi-room systems for homes and blocks of flats across all of Chelmsford’s CM1, CM2 and CM3 postcodes. If you’re not sure whether you even need a dish any more, we can talk you through that too.
Satellite services in Chelmsford

Sky dish installation
New dishes for Sky Q and older Sky boxes, with the right LNB for the number of boxes in the house. Sky Glass and Sky Stream work over broadband without a dish, so if you’re switching, we can take an old dish down or leave it in place for Freesat.

Freesat installation
Subscription-free satellite TV with no monthly bill. In parts of Chelmsford where trees or taller buildings weaken the aerial signal from Sudbury, Freesat is often the more reliable way to watch live TV.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
Picture failing in rain, or one box losing signal while others work? Usually the dish has drifted or the LNB, the part on the end of the arm, has failed. We realign with a meter and replace the LNB if needed.

Moving a dish
Extensions, new windows, rendering and solar panels often mean a dish has to move. We find a new position with a clear view south-east, re-run the cable neatly and seal where it enters the house.

Multi-room and communal satellite
Multiswitch systems that let several boxes, or several flats, share one dish without fighting over the signal. Common in Chelmsford’s newer apartment blocks and larger family homes.

Foreign-language satellite
Dishes aligned to Hotbird and other European satellites for channels from Italy, Poland, Greece and further afield, set up alongside your Sky or Freesat dish where space allows.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
When a Sky or Freesat box says there’s no satellite signal, the cause is usually outside. Dishes get nudged by high winds or by roofers, trees grow into the line of sight over a summer, birds perch on the arm, and LNBs fail with age. Inside, a loose cable behind the box or a faulty multiswitch can do the same thing.
Before you call, restart the box at the wall and check heavy rain or snow isn’t blocking the dish, as both clear on their own. If the message comes back, we can usually trace and fix it in one visit.

Where can a dish go?
In Chelmsford a dish needs a clear view towards the south-east, which rules out some north-facing walls and gardens shaded by tall trees. Most homes can have a dish without planning permission, but the rules are tighter in conservation areas, such as parts of Writtle and the older streets near the city centre, and for listed buildings. We’ll suggest a position that works and keeps you within the rules, and tell you if you need to check with the council first.

Chelmsford questions
Why does my Sky or Freesat picture break up in the rain?
Heavy rain weakens the satellite signal slightly. A well-aligned dish has enough margin to cope, so if yours breaks up in every shower, the dish has probably drifted or the LNB is ageing. Realignment usually fixes it.
Do I still need a dish for Sky?
Not for Sky Glass or Sky Stream, which work over broadband. Sky Q and older Sky boxes still need a dish. If you’ve switched, a dish can stay up and be reused for Freesat.
Can you move my satellite dish for an extension?
Yes. We take the dish down, find a new position with a clear view south-east, re-run the cable and realign it.
Do I need planning permission for a dish in Chelmsford?
Most homes don’t, but the rules are stricter in conservation areas and for listed buildings, especially for dishes on walls or roofs facing the road. We’ll advise on a suitable position.
Can you fit a dish for foreign-language channels?
Yes. We align dishes to Hotbird and other European satellites, and can often fit one alongside your existing dish.
