TV aerial repairs in Grays
Most TV aerials in Grays were either installed or reworked when London switched to digital in April 2012, and plenty are older than that. Years of damp air off the Thames and blustery weather along the estuary wear them down. Plugs corrode, cable jackets split in the sun, brackets slacken and an aerial can creep a few degrees away from Crystal Palace. The result builds up slowly: a channel that stutters on a wet evening, a multiplex that vanishes after a retune, then a blank screen.
We find the fault with a meter, not guesswork. Readings at the TV, the wall plate, the amplifier and the aerial show where the signal drops off, and that is the part we repair. It might be one connector in the loft or a mast that needs relashing to the chimney. We retune your sets and show you the figures before we go.

Faults we repair on Grays TV aerials

Storm and wind damage
Wind funnels up the river and across the open ground towards Tilbury and Orsett. We straighten bent aerials, replace snapped poles, refit lashings that have worked loose and make a leaning mast safe before it falls.

Water in the cable
Moisture creeps into split coax and unsealed plugs, then spreads inside the cable. The picture breaks up when it rains and recovers when it dries. We replace the wet run, fit weatherproof connectors and add a drip loop.

TV aerial pointing the wrong way
An aerial knocked even slightly off Crystal Palace, or left half-turned towards Kent, loses channels. We swing it back with the meter connected and tighten the clamps so it stays on line.

Failed amplifiers and splitters
If every TV dropped out together, start with the amplifier in the loft. Power units fail, and older amplifiers can be set far too high for the London signal, which overloads the tuners. We replace or reset them to suit.

Missing channels and 4G/5G interference
Channels gone after a retune usually mean the aerial is too narrow-band for today’s frequencies. A picture that freezes at busy times often points to mobile signals from local masts serving Thurrock’s phones. A filter fitted at the aerial or amplifier sorts it out.

Single rooms, sockets and fly leads
When only the bedroom set misbehaves, the fault is nearly always close to that TV: a kinked fly lead, a loose wall plate or a cheap splitter. We test that run on its own and replace whatever has failed.
Is it worth repairing?
Usually it is. Most faults sit in the cable, the connectors, the amplifier or the alignment, and they can be fixed for far less than a new installation. We suggest a new TV aerial when the old one has corroded, when it was built for a channel group that no longer covers all of Freeview, or when the pole and bracket need renewing and the aerial is close to the end of its life. You see the readings and make the call.

Repairs for landlords and rented homes
Grays has a lot of rented housing, from converted Victorian houses near the town centre to flats around the station and in Chafford Hundred. A tenant with no picture often has no access to the loft or roof, and the landlord may live miles away. We can arrange access with the tenant or letting agent, fix the fault, and send the landlord a short written note of what we found and replaced, with the signal readings. In shared houses we often split one TV aerial feed to several rooms, each with its own socket, so one tenant’s fault doesn’t take everyone else’s TV down.

Grays questions
All my TVs in Grays show ‘no signal’. What should I check?
Look at the amplifier, usually in the loft or behind the main TV. If its light is off, the power unit has probably failed. If it’s on, the main cable or the aerial is more likely, and that needs a meter to find.
Why does my picture break up in wet weather?
Water is getting into a cable or connector, usually near the aerial. The signal falls until it dries out. Replacing that section of cable and sealing the joints puts it right.
My TV aerial points at Kent and I’ve lost channels. Should it point at London?
Possibly. Bluebell Hill works well at some Grays addresses but not all, and Crystal Palace is the main transmitter for Thurrock. We measure both and realign the aerial to whichever is stronger and cleaner.
Can you fix a TV aerial in a rented property?
Yes. We work for tenants, landlords and letting agents, and can send the landlord a written summary of the fault and the repair.
Do you repair TV aerials that other people installed?
Yes. We repair aerials, cables, amplifiers and sockets whoever fitted them.
