Satellite engineers in Stowmarket
In a town where the aerial signal is split between two transmitters, satellite gives Stowmarket households a simple alternative: one dish, one direction, and a long list of channels. The dish faces south-east, and on most estates there is open sky that way. The trouble spots are terraces with tall neighbours, gardens with mature trees, and flats where the only free wall faces the wrong way.
We install Sky and Freesat dishes across IP14, move them for extensions and loft conversions, replace failed LNBs and design multi-room and communal systems for houses and blocks. If you are deciding whether to keep a dish or switch to a broadband service, we can talk you through what each needs.

Sky dish installation
Sky Q boxes still pull their channels down from a dish. We mount one where it has a clean view, with an LNB that has enough outputs for every tuner you plan to use. Sky Glass and Sky Stream skip the dish and use your broadband, so after a switch the old dish can stay for Freesat or be removed.

Freesat installation
No contract and no monthly bill: just a dish, a Freesat box or a TV with Freesat built in. It is worth considering on Stowmarket streets where neither Sudbury nor Tacolneston comes in cleanly.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
When showers wipe out the picture, or a recording clashes because one tuner can’t lock on, the usual causes are a dish nudged off target or an LNB that has worn out. A meter puts the aim right, and a fresh LNB goes on if the old one has failed.

Moving a dish
Building work is the main reason dishes move in a growing town: a loft dormer, a two-storey extension, fresh render or a roof full of solar panels. We take the dish down, choose a position that still sees the satellite and route the cable back in tidily.

Multi-room and communal satellite
A multiswitch shares a single dish between many outlets without one box stealing another’s signal. We install and repair these for larger houses and for blocks of flats around the town.

Foreign-language satellite
If you want television from home, many national channels from across Europe sit on Hotbird and other satellites. We point a second dish, or a dual-feed set-up, at the one carrying them.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
That message on a Sky or Freesat box nearly always has an outdoor cause. In Stowmarket we often find a dish knocked by scaffolders or roofers, an LNB that has given up after many winters, cable chafed against a window frame, or a neighbour’s conifer that has quietly grown into the dish’s view. Occasionally it is indoors: a plug worked loose behind the box, or a multiswitch in a cupboard that has lost power.
First, unplug the box at the socket for a minute and plug it back in. Then glance at the sky: a thunderstorm overhead or wet snow on the dish will interrupt the picture and then clear on its own. If the fault shows up on a dry, calm day too, book a visit and we will trace it from the dish to the box.

Where can a dish go?
Your dish needs to look south-east across open sky. On most Stowmarket estates that is easy, but terraced streets with tall neighbours and gardens with big trees can make it harder. Most homes can put up a dish without planning permission. The Stowmarket Conservation Area, covering the historic centre around the church and the market, has tighter rules, as do listed buildings, particularly for dishes on elevations facing the street. We aim for a spot at the back or side of the house, and we will say when it is worth checking with Mid Suffolk District Council before fixing anything.

Stowmarket questions
Is satellite a good idea if neighbours’ aerials point different ways?
It can be. Stowmarket sits between Sudbury and Tacolneston, so some addresses get a marginal aerial signal from both. A dish only needs a view south-east, and Freesat or Sky then gives a steady picture.
My dish cuts out in light rain. Is it broken?
Probably not broken, just slightly off aim or fitted with a tired LNB. A precisely aimed dish should ride out ordinary rain. Realignment, and a new LNB if needed, usually fixes it.
We’re moving to Sky Glass. Can the dish be reused?
Yes. Sky Glass and Sky Stream use broadband rather than the dish, but Sky Q needs it. A sound dish can feed a Freesat box, or we can take it down for you.
Do I need planning permission for a dish in Stowmarket?
Most homes don’t. In the conservation area and on listed buildings the rules are stricter, especially for dishes visible from the street, so we look for a discreet position.
Can you fix the communal dish in our block?
Yes. We trace faults in communal satellite systems, replace failed multiswitches and LNBs, and test each flat’s outlet.
