Satellite engineers for Eye
Around Eye, satellite is often the simplest way to get a long list of channels, particularly in the villages where the aerial signal falls between two transmitters. A dish only cares about one direction, the south-east, and in open Suffolk farmland there is usually plenty of sky that way. In the town itself, the church, the castle mound and their trees can be in the way, so the position needs thought.
Our engineers put up Sky and Freesat dishes across IP23, move dishes when you extend, re-roof or render, fit new LNBs and wire multi-room systems that let several TVs share one dish. If you are wondering whether a broadband TV service could replace your dish, we will explain the trade-offs.
Satellite services in Eye

Sky dish installation
A Sky Q box needs a dish, and we fit one with the LNB matched to your tuners. Sky Glass and Sky Stream don’t use a dish at all, as they stream over broadband; if you change over, the dish can stay for Freesat or come down.

Freesat installation
Freesat brings free-to-air channels from the satellite with nothing to pay each month. Out in the villages, where the aerial picture can be patchy, it is often the steadier choice.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
If the picture keeps dropping in showers, or one tuner can’t find a signal, the dish has likely moved or the LNB has failed. We bring it back on target with a meter and fit a new LNB if needed.

Moving a dish
New render, replacement windows, a barn conversion or solar panels can leave a dish in the way. We move it to a spot that still sees the satellite and tidy the cable into the house.

Multi-room and communal satellite
With a multiswitch, a farmhouse and its annexe, or several flats in the town, can all run from one dish, each box with its own feed.

Foreign-language satellite
Hotbird and other satellites carry channels from Italy, Poland, Lithuania, Portugal and further afield. We set up a dish for the one you need, often next to the main dish.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
In and around Eye, a box that says it has lost the satellite usually has a problem outside. Gales move dishes on exposed gable ends, LNBs fail after years in the weather, cables get damaged on barn walls, and trees and hedges grow into the line of sight. Indoors, a loose cable or a dead multiswitch has the same effect.
Try a full restart of the box at the socket, and look to see whether snow is sitting on the dish or a downpour is passing, as both sort themselves out. If the problem keeps coming back in fine weather, we can usually find and fix it on one visit.

Where can a dish go?
Every dish needs a clear view to the south-east, without trees, chimneys or neighbouring buildings in the way. Most homes can put one up without planning permission. The rules are tighter in the Eye Conservation Area, which covers the historic centre around the church, the castle and the main streets, and for listed buildings, of which Eye has many. We look for a discreet position at the back or side and tell you if you should check with Mid Suffolk District Council before it goes up.

Eye questions
Is satellite better than an aerial in the villages around Eye?
It can be. Where the aerial signal is weak or switches between transmitters, Freesat or Sky gives a steady picture, provided the dish has a clear view south-east. Many homes have both.
Our Sky picture drops out in showers. Can it be fixed?
Usually. A dish that is spot on copes with normal rain. Dropping out in every shower suggests it has moved or the LNB is failing, and a realignment or a new LNB normally cures it.
Do I need a dish if I get Sky Stream?
No. Sky Stream and Sky Glass use broadband. Sky Q still needs a dish, and an old dish can be reused for Freesat if you switch.
Can I put a dish on a listed house in Eye?
Possibly, but the rules are stricter for listed buildings and in the conservation area. We look for a hidden position and will tell you to check with the council where needed.
Can you set up a dish for Polish or Italian channels?
Yes. We align a dish to Hotbird or another European satellite, usually alongside your current dish.
