Sky and Freesat dishes in Frinton-on-Sea
Frinton has big skies, and that helps. With the sea to the south-east of the town, most homes have an open view in exactly the direction a dish needs to look. What it doesn’t have is shelter. Wind straight off the water puts real strain on a dish and its bracket, and a dish only needs to move a fraction to lose the satellites. Careful fixing matters as much as careful aiming.
We put up new Sky and Freesat dishes, re-aim dishes that have shifted, change LNBs, move dishes for building work and set up multi-room and communal systems in CO13 and next door in Walton. If you’re weighing up whether to keep a dish at all, we’ll give you a straight answer on the choices.
Satellite services in Frinton

Sky dish installation
Dishes and LNBs sized for Sky Q, with an output for each box you plan to use. Sky Glass and Sky Stream are different: they work over broadband and have no dish at all, so if that is where you’re heading we can leave your dish for Freesat or remove it neatly.

Freesat installation
Freesat gives you a full guide of live channels, recordings with the right box, and no subscription. It is a good fallback where trees or distance make the aerial signal from Sudbury unreliable.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
A gale can turn a dish just enough to lose the picture in the next shower. An LNB, the receiving part on the dish arm, can also fail with age or salt damage. We peak the dish on a meter and replace a faulty LNB on the spot where we can.

Moving a dish
Re-roofing, rendering, new windows or an extension often means the dish must move. We find a fresh position facing the south-east sky, run the cable tidily along the wall and seal it where it enters.

Multi-room and communal satellite
For apartment buildings and houses with boxes in several rooms, a multiswitch lets everyone share one dish, each with a full feed of their own.

Foreign-language satellite
Second dishes or dual-feed set-ups for Hotbird and other European satellites, so you can watch channels from Italy, Poland, Greece, Germany and beyond next to your usual Sky or Freesat.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
When the box reports no satellite signal, check outside first. In Frinton the usual causes are a dish blown off aim, an LNB that has failed, a bracket that has rusted and drooped, or cable that has cracked in the sun and let in water. Inside, a loose connector on the back of the box or a failed multiswitch can do the same.
Try a full restart at the plug, and glance up at the dish in case heavy snow or a deluge is the problem, as both clear on their own. If the message stays, we’ll trace the fault and repair it.

Where can a dish go?
A dish in Frinton has to see the sky to the south-east, which is usually easy here but can be blocked on the inland side of a tall house or behind big trees. For most homes, planning permission isn’t needed for a dish. The rules are tighter inside a conservation area, and the town has one, the Frinton and Walton Conservation Area. They are tighter again for listed buildings, which include several houses on the Frinton Park Estate. We’ll suggest the least visible position that still works, and say if you should check with Tendring District Council before we fit it.

Frinton-on-Sea questions
Why does my dish lose signal in windy weather?
If the bracket or pole flexes, the dish moves off the satellite in strong gusts. We fix dishes to rigid brackets and align them on a meter so they stay put on an exposed coast.
Do I need a dish for Sky any more?
Not with Sky Glass or Sky Stream, which use broadband. Sky Q and earlier Sky boxes still need one. A dish you no longer use for Sky can be kept for Freesat.
Is there a monthly charge for Freesat?
No. Freesat has no subscription. You buy or reuse a Freesat box or TV and connect it to a dish.
Can I have a dish in the conservation area?
Often, yes, but the rules are stricter in the Frinton and Walton Conservation Area and on listed buildings, particularly for dishes visible from the road. We’ll recommend a discreet position and suggest checking with the council where needed.
Can you set up foreign-language channels?
Yes. We align a dish to Hotbird or another European satellite, usually alongside your existing dish.
