Dishes for Chatteris homes
A satellite dish in Chatteris rarely struggles for a view. The fen is flat in every direction, so a clear line to the south-east is easy to find on most houses. What a dish here does have to cope with is wind. On a flimsy bracket, gusts can twist it enough to lose its margin, and then the picture drops out every time a squall of rain comes over.
We install and repair Sky and Freesat dishes across Chatteris and the surrounding villages. Every dish is set up with a meter and mounted on a bracket that suits the wall and how exposed it is. We also replace LNBs, move dishes when you build or render, set up multi-room systems and fit dishes for channels from other countries.
Satellite services in Chatteris

Sky dish installation
If you watch on Sky Q, or an earlier Sky box, your channels come down from a dish. We fit one with an LNB output for each tuner in the house. Sky Glass and Sky Stream are delivered by broadband, so a home that has changed over may have a spare dish we can remove or put to use for Freesat.

Freesat installation
No subscription, just free-to-air channels from the satellites. A good option for farms and outlying homes where trees or sheds weaken the aerial signal, and for second TVs in an annexe.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
Picture gone in every shower, or one tuner forever losing signal? Wind has usually nudged the dish, or the LNB at the end of the arm is wearing out. We set the dish back on target with a meter and fit a new LNB if the old one has had its day.

Moving a dish
Building an extension, rendering the front or putting solar on the roof? The dish may be in the way. We take it down, find a wall or pole with an open south-eastern outlook, refit it and bring the cable back in through a sealed hole.

Multi-room and communal satellite
A multiswitch lets a number of Sky or Freesat boxes take their feed from a single dish, each with full control of its own channels. We fit them in family homes, in flats above shops on the High Street and in buildings converted into apartments.

Foreign-language satellite
For households who want TV from home as well as the UK channels, we point dishes at Hotbird and other satellites for Polish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Portuguese and other channels, mounted beside your main dish if space allows.
Satellite repairs: ‘no satellite signal’
When the box says it can’t find a satellite signal, the fault is usually outside. Around Chatteris the common causes are a dish knocked out of line by wind, a hedge or tree that has grown into its view, a worn LNB, or a cable damaged by birds or building work. Indoors, a loose plug or a failed multiswitch does the same.
Try unplugging the box for a minute, and look to see if the dish is covered in snow or ice. Both are worth ruling out first. If the message keeps coming back, we can find and fix the fault, usually in one visit.

Where can a dish go in Chatteris?
The dish needs an unobstructed view to the south-east, usually from a side or back wall, or a pole on a chimney if the walls are shaded. Most homes don’t need planning permission. The rules are stricter in the Chatteris Conservation Area, which covers the historic centre including the High Street, Market Hill and the Park Streets. Listed buildings need extra care, above all where a dish would face the road. We look for a spot that is out of sight but still sees the satellite, and let you know if Fenland District Council should be asked first.

Chatteris questions
My dish loses the picture whenever it rains. Why?
Rain weakens the signal from the satellite a little. A dish set accurately has enough in hand to cope, so if yours drops out in normal showers it has likely shifted in the wind, or the LNB is ageing. A realignment usually fixes it.
We’ve switched to Sky Glass. What do we do with the dish?
Sky Glass works over broadband, so it doesn’t use the dish. You can have it taken down, or keep it and add a Freesat box for free satellite TV in another room.
Can you fit a dish on a bungalow?
Yes. We mount it on a wall or a short pole high enough to clear fences and neighbouring roofs, with the cable run neatly to your TV.
Do I need planning permission for a dish in Chatteris?
Usually not. In the conservation area around the town centre, or on a listed building, a dish on a front-facing wall or roof may need consent. We can usually find a less visible place for it.
Can I watch channels from my home country?
Very likely. Many European channels are carried on Hotbird, and we can set up a second dish for it, often on the same bracket or wall as the one you already have.
