Satellite engineers for Brandon
In a town ringed by forest, satellite can be the answer when the aerial signal struggles. A dish looks up at satellites high over the equator, so it doesn’t have to see through miles of pine trees the way an aerial does. It does need a clear view of the sky to the south-east, and finding a spot that has one, away from overhanging branches, is the key to a dish that keeps working.
We fit Sky and Freesat dishes, move them for extensions and roof work, replace failed LNBs and set up multi-room and shared systems across IP27. Brandon has had a large Polish community since the end of the Second World War, and we can set up a dish for Polish channels as easily as one for Sky.
Satellite services in Brandon

Sky dish installation
A Sky Q box still takes its feed from a dish. We size the LNB to the tuners in the house and run the cables inside. Glass and Stream, Sky’s broadband boxes, have no use for a dish, so on a switch-over yours can come down or stay up to drive Freesat.

Freesat installation
Live TV from the satellites with nothing to pay each month. For a house hemmed in by forest, where the Freeview picture comes and goes, Freesat is often the dependable option.

Dish realignment and LNB replacement
Showers that never used to bother the picture now wipe it out? Or the recorder can watch but not record? Expect a dish that has crept out of aim, or an LNB near the end. A meter tells us which.

Moving a dish
An extension, fresh render, solar panels or a pine that has grown into the dish’s sightline all call for a new mounting point. We pick one with open sky to the south-east and bring the cable in tidily.

Multi-room and communal satellite
A multiswitch splits one dish into independent feeds, so every box in a big house, or every flat in a block, gets its own. One dish on the gable beats a row of them across the front.

Foreign-language satellite
Many Polish channels are carried on Hotbird, along with channels from Italy, Greece and elsewhere in Europe. We fit and align a dish for them, alongside your Sky or Freesat dish where there is room.
When the box can’t find the satellite
Round here the culprit is usually the forest or the weather. A limb grows out across the sightline over one summer, or a falling branch clips the dish and leaves it pointing at empty sky. LNBs give out after years on a wall. The fault can be indoors too: a connector pulled half out behind the TV cabinet, or a multiswitch whose power unit has failed.
Two checks cost nothing. Power the box off at the wall for a minute, then back on. And look at the dish: a heavy downpour or wet snow lying in it blocks reception until it clears. If the message persists on a dry day, we will track it down, typically on the first visit.

Where can a dish go in Brandon?
A dish needs a clear view to the south-east, which rules out walls facing north and gardens under tall pines. Most homes don’t need planning permission for a dish. The Brandon conservation area, covering the High Street, Bridge Street, Market Hill, London Road and nearby streets, is stricter: the council’s appraisal asks for dishes to be kept off prominent front elevations, and singles out a dish on a Victorian house in London Road as an example to avoid. Listed buildings need more care again. We find a rear or side position that works and tell you if you should check with West Suffolk Council first.

Brandon questions
Can you set up a dish for Polish TV?
Yes. Many Polish channels are on Hotbird. We fit and align a dish for it, often next to your existing Sky or Freesat dish.
Will trees affect my satellite dish?
Only if they block its view to the south-east. We choose a position with a clear line of sight, and can move a dish if a tree has grown into the way.
We’re getting Sky Glass. Should the dish come down?
It’s up to you. Glass and Stream use broadband, so Sky no longer needs it, though Sky Q does. Plenty of people leave the dish up and plug a Freesat box into it.
Can I put a dish on a house in the conservation area?
Usually, if it is kept off the front of the building. The council asks for dishes to be unobtrusive there. For listed buildings, check with the council first.
The satellite picture cuts out in every shower. Is that normal?
Only in a real cloudburst. If ordinary rain does it, the dish has lost its aim or the LNB is going, and a re-aim or new LNB brings it back.
