A camera earns its place twice. Seen on the wall, it tells a passing opportunist to try somewhere else. Recording, it gives you a sharp picture of a face, a number plate and a time stamp if something does happen. Both depend on where the camera sits and how the recorder is set, so we plan each job around your building before talking about kit.

Wickford is a commuter town of around 27,500 people, with trains from the junction station to Liverpool Street in about forty minutes. Plenty of homes stand empty all day while their owners work in London or Chelmsford, and that shapes much of our work here. We fit systems for houses in Wickford North, Wickford Park and Castledon, for the new streets going up at St Luke’s Park in Runwell and for the apartment blocks built recently in SS11. In the centre we work for traders along the High Street and in the Willows on Market Road, and out at Hurricane Way and Hodgson Way we cover the warehouses, workshops and offices of Wickford Business Park. Beyond the town, Rettendon, Rawreth, Battlesbridge and Ramsden Bellhouse bring farmyards, equestrian land and long private drives.

Camera types we fit

A semi in Castledon, a shopfront opposite the Willows and a steel-clad unit on Hurricane Way each call for different lenses and housings. Often the best answer mixes two or three of the types below on one recorder.

Turret
Our usual choice for homes: a wide view, strong night vision and no dome cover to catch glare.
Dome
Discreet and vandal-resistant, for ceilings, shop floors, porches and communal hallways.
Bullet
A visible deterrent with a longer reach, for driveways, yards and car parks.
Varifocal
Zoom set on the day to read a face at the door or a number plate at the gate.
PTZ
Pan, tilt and zoom cameras that can follow movement across a large yard or car park.
Number plate (ANPR)
Reads plates at entrances to business premises and private car parks.
AI detection
Alerts for people and vehicles only, not cats, passing cars or trees moving in the wind.
4G and solar
For gates, barns and building sites with no power or network cable to hand.

Everything records to a network video recorder (NVR) at your property, 4MP to 4K depending on the camera, with phone viewing included.

Picking cameras that suit the job

Most Wickford houses have an open front garden and a drive straight off the road, so one wide-angle camera covering the drive and a second at head height near the porch usually does more than four cameras up on the soffit. Gated back gardens need a camera aimed along the side passage, where anyone getting in has to walk towards it. On the business park, units sit in rows with shared service roads, so we keep the view to your own doors and parking bays and use a varifocal lens to read plates at the yard entrance. For a paddock or barn out towards Battlesbridge with no network cable, a 4G camera running from a small solar panel can do the job.

Before any drilling, we stand where each camera will go and show you its view on a tablet, so you can change your mind about angles while it costs nothing. We then agree where the cables will run and where the recorder lives, and set it to hold about four weeks of footage.

Your rough plan

3cameras

Recorder: 4-channel NVR

  • Front door: turret with a face-height view of the porch
  • Driveway: varifocal to catch number plates at the kerb
  • Back garden: wide-angle turret over the garden and back door

Most Wickford homes need three or four cameras. The free survey confirms the exact positions and gives you a fixed price.

CCTV faults we sort out

When a Wickford system stops working, the cause is usually ordinary. A shared power supply fails and several cameras go black together. Rain finds its way into a joint left in an outdoor box and the picture rolls or vanishes. The drive inside the recorder fills up, wears out or dies, and nobody notices until they need a clip from last week. Night footage turns to fog because spiders have built a web over the lens, or the infrared lamps have quit. And very often the app simply lost touch after the broadband provider sent a new router.

We check each camera, cable joint and power feed in turn, then the recorder, replace whatever has failed and confirm that footage is saving and your phone is connected before we leave. Where an older system would cost more to patch than it is worth, we say so plainly and price a new one that reuses any sound cabling.

Home and business CCTV rules

If your cameras see only your own house, garden and drive, data protection law doesn’t come into it. If they take in the street, a shared path or next door’s garden, it does, which is why we use careful angles and privacy masking to keep recordings inside your boundary. Shops and businesses should put up clear signs that CCTV is in use and decide how long footage is kept before it is overwritten. The Information Commissioner’s Office publishes plain guidance on home and business cameras, and we set recorders up to fit with it.

Wickford questions

How much will CCTV cost for my Wickford home or business?

That depends on how many cameras you need, how far the cables have to run and what size of recorder suits you. After a survey, or a short chat by phone or WhatsApp, we give you a fixed price.

Can I watch the cameras from my phone?

Yes. Each system we fit has an app for live view and recorded playback, and we set it up on your phone and walk you through it before we finish.

Will you fix a system somebody else installed?

Yes. We repair most makes of camera and recorder, and older analogue systems can usually be upgraded to HD over the cable that is already there.

Do I need permission to put cameras on my house?

You don’t need anyone’s permission for cameras on your own home. If they record beyond your boundary, data protection rules apply to that footage, so we aim them to avoid it as far as possible.

Does a business have to pay the ICO fee for CCTV?

Usually, yes. A business recording for crime prevention normally pays the Information Commissioner’s data protection fee, displays signs and keeps footage only as long as it needs to. Check the ICO website for the current fee and any exemptions.

I’m moving into a new house at St Luke’s Park in Runwell. Can you fit cameras?

Yes. New homes are often easier to wire because lofts and soffits are clear. Check your sale documents or the estate’s management company for any rules on fittings on the outside of the house, then we can survey and run cables neatly through the loft.
