CCTV installers on Canvey Island
The point of CCTV is to make a property look like hard work and, if someone tries anyway, to leave you with footage good enough to show who it was. That means clear faces at the door, readable plates on the drive and a recorder that has actually been saving. On an island exposed to wind and salt spray from the estuary, it also means kit that will stand up to the weather.
Canvey is flat, low-lying land ringed by a sea wall, with about 6,000 properties behind its flood defences. Much of it is bungalows and chalets, from Leigh Beck and Newlands in the east to Canvey Village and Winter Gardens, with seafront homes along the southern shore. The Knightswick Centre and Furtherwick Road form the shopping heart, Thorney Bay has its static caravan park, and the Charfleet Industrial Estate holds trade units and yards. Boat owners keep craft on the creeks around the island. We fit and repair CCTV for all of these, and for homes across the bridges in Benfleet and Thundersley.
CCTV services on Canvey Island

Home CCTV
Bungalows suit cameras under the low eaves, covering the front door, the drive and the side passage, with colour pictures at night where there is a porch light.

Business CCTV
Units and yards on Charfleet, and shops on Furtherwick Road: shutters, stock, tills and service doors, recorded on a recorder you own outright.

Caravans, holiday lets and seafront homes
Cameras for static caravans, chalets and seafront homes that stand empty part of the year, with alerts to your phone when someone approaches.

CCTV repairs and upgrades
Corroded brackets, cameras lost to damp, recorders that stopped saving and old analogue kit upgraded to HD on the existing cable.

Remote viewing set-up
Your cameras on your phone with your own password. Several properties, or a boat and a home, can be grouped in one app.
Camera types we fit
A chalet bungalow in Leigh Beck, a shopfront by the Knightswick Centre and a yard on Charfleet need different cameras, and we choose housings rated for wet, salty air on every outdoor one.
- Turret
- Our usual choice for homes: a wide view, strong night vision and no dome cover to catch glare.
- Dome
- Discreet and vandal-resistant, for ceilings, shop floors, porches and communal hallways.
- Bullet
- A visible deterrent with a longer reach, for driveways, yards and car parks.
- Varifocal
- Zoom set on the day to read a face at the door or a number plate at the gate.
- PTZ
- Pan, tilt and zoom cameras that can follow movement across a large yard or car park.
- Number plate (ANPR)
- Reads plates at entrances to business premises and private car parks.
- AI detection
- Alerts for people and vehicles only, not cats, passing cars or trees moving in the wind.
- 4G and solar
- For gates, barns and building sites with no power or network cable to hand.
Everything records to a network video recorder (NVR) at your property, 4MP to 4K depending on the camera, with phone viewing included.

Choosing cameras for an island home
On a bungalow the eaves are low, which is a help: cameras can sit close to the action and pick out faces clearly, but they are also within reach, so we use vandal-resistant dome cameras on the most exposed corners. A good starting point is one camera at the front door, one along the drive and one over the garden or side gate. Close to the sea wall, we pick cameras with sealed metal housings, stainless fixings and junction boxes so connections are never left open to spray.
For a caravan or a chalet that is empty in winter, a mains camera with phone alerts works well where power is left on, while a 4G camera suits a site without broadband. Shops on Furtherwick Road usually need a camera on the counter, one on the door and one on the rear access. During the survey we show you what each camera will see on a tablet and agree cable routes, and we size the recorder for around a month of footage.

Your rough plan
3cameras
Recorder: 4-channel NVR
- Front door: turret with a face-height view of the porch
- Driveway: varifocal to catch number plates at the kerb
- Back garden: wide-angle turret over the garden and back door
Most Canvey Island homes need three or four cameras. The free survey confirms the exact positions and gives you a fixed price.
Common CCTV faults we fix
Salt air speeds up most of the faults we see on Canvey. Screws and brackets rust, connectors corrode and pictures start to flicker or drop out. Damp in a junction box causes the same thing after a wet, windy week. Beyond the weather, a power supply may have failed and taken cameras down with it, the hard drive may be full or dead so nothing has recorded for a while, or spiders may have covered a lens so the infrared view is a white blur. Sometimes the infrared lamps themselves have failed. And when a new router is fitted, the app on your phone often stops connecting.
We test each camera, cable and joint, replace corroded parts with marine-grade fittings where needed, and check the recorder is saving and the app works before we leave. If a system is beyond sensible repair, we say so and quote for a replacement that reuses any sound cable.
CCTV and the law
Recording only your own home and garden is a private matter. If a camera also covers the street, the sea wall path or a neighbour’s property, data protection law applies to that footage, so we position cameras and add privacy masking to keep it out. Shops, caravan sites and other businesses need visible CCTV signs and a set retention period for recordings. The Information Commissioner’s Office explains the rules for homes and businesses on its website, and we set your recorder up to suit.

Canvey Island questions
How much does CCTV cost on Canvey Island?
It comes down to the number of cameras, the cable runs and the recorder. We give you a fixed price after a survey, or after a few questions by phone for a simple job.
Can I view my cameras on my phone?
Yes. Every system includes live view and playback on your phone, tablet or computer, and we set the app up with you before we leave.
Do you repair systems fitted by other companies?
Yes. We work on most brands of camera and recorder, and we can usually upgrade analogue cameras to HD over the cable already fitted.
Do I need permission for CCTV at home?
You don’t need permission, but footage of anything outside your boundary is covered by data protection law. We aim cameras to keep that to a minimum.
Does my shop or business need to pay the ICO fee?
Most do. Businesses using CCTV for crime prevention generally need to pay the Information Commissioner’s data protection fee, put up signs and keep footage only as long as necessary. Check the ICO website for the current fee and exemptions.
Will cameras last near the sea wall on Canvey?
They will if they are chosen and fitted for it. Homes near the southern shore get wind and salt spray off the estuary, so we use sealed, weather-rated housings, stainless fixings and sealed junction boxes, and we can check and clean existing cameras that have started to corrode.
