TV aerial repairs in Loughton
Loughton has almost every kind of TV aerial problem in one town. Up near the forest, high roofs catch the full force of a gale. Down on Debden, aerials and cables put up long ago are wearing out. In the blocks and the flats above the shops, one fault in a shared system can blank a whole staircase. The good news is that most of it can be fixed without starting again.
We test step by step, from the TV to the wall plate, the amplifier and the aerial, and stop where the signal drops. That tells us what has failed. We repair that part, retest every room and walk you through the readings before we go. If something else on the system looks close to giving up, such as a perished cable clip or a rusty bracket, we’ll point it out so you can decide whether to deal with it now.

Typical repairs in IG10

Storm and wind damage
The hill roads by the forest are where winter winds do the most harm. We straighten or replace bent aerials, refit snapped poles and loose lashings, and leave the mast secure.

Water in the cable or connectors
Old down leads crack and older plugs let in rain, so the picture breaks up after a wet night. We replace the damaged run and fit sealed, weatherproofed connectors.

TV aerial off its line
Pushed even slightly off Crystal Palace, an aerial starts dropping channels. We set it again with a meter and tighten each clamp so it stays.

Failed amplifiers and splitters
Masthead and loft amplifiers wear out, and their power units fail. If every room went off together, that’s the first thing we test, and we replace it with one set for your signal level.

Missing channels and 4G/5G
Channels missing since a retune often mean an aerial cut for the old analogue channels. Freezing at peak times hints at mobile interference, which a filter stops.

Sockets, fly leads and single rooms
One TV down and the rest fine? The fault sits close to that set: the fly lead, the wall plate or the cable to that room. We find which and fix it.
Is it worth repairing?
If a TV aerial is in good order, we repair it. Replacement makes sense when it’s brittle, rusted or snapped, when it was built for an analogue channel group and misses part of Freeview, or when the mast and bracket need renewing anyway. We’ll show you what we found and let you choose.

Exposed roofs on the hill roads
The highest parts of Loughton are the roads along the forest edge, and from the green near York Hill you can see across to London. Height gives a strong TV signal, but it also means wind. In a winter gale, TV aerials on tall roofs around York Hill, Baldwins Hill, Alderton Hill and Traps Hill can be bent over or turned, and a long pole slowly works its bracket loose. If yours has come down or is leaning, keep clear and call us. We make it safe first, then repair it with a fixing to suit the height. Many home insurance policies cover storm damage, and we can write a short note of what we found.

Loughton questions
My TV aerial has blown round in the wind. Can you fix it?
Yes. We check the pole, bracket and lashings for damage, replace anything bent or snapped, and realign the aerial on Crystal Palace with a meter.
Why do I lose channels when it rains?
Water has almost certainly got into a cable or connector. The signal drops while it’s wet and recovers as it dries. Replacing the damaged section with sealed plugs ends it.
Some channels disappeared after a retune. Why?
Usually because the aerial was designed for a narrow group of channels and Crystal Palace moved some services in 2018. A wideband aerial brings them back.
One flat in our Debden block has no picture. Who do I call?
If other flats are fine, the fault is probably inside that flat, and we can fix it. If several flats are out, report it to the landlord or managing agent, who looks after the shared system, and we can work with them.
Can you repair a TV aerial another firm fitted?
Yes. We repair any aerial, cable, amplifier or socket, whoever installed it.
