New TV aerials for Thetford
Thetford has two faces. There is the old market town on the Little Ouse, with its castle mound, priory ruins and the flint fronts that stood in for Walmington-on-Sea in Dad’s Army. And there is the much larger town that grew after the war, when Thetford took in families from London and roughly doubled in size, with new estates spreading out on every side. Both have their own TV quirks, from TV aerials on old chimney stacks in the centre to shared systems on the post-war estates.
Our installs cover IP24 and the surrounding parishes, whether that is a cottage near White Hart Street to a family house on the Abbey estate or a brand-new home at Kingsfleet. We begin with a meter reading at your address, on both the main transmitter and the local relay, then tell you which aerial suits and what it costs before any work starts.

TV aerial services in Thetford

New and replacement TV aerials
Most Thetford aerials point east-north-east at Tacolneston, south-west of Norwich, which sends out every Freeview multiplex. A wideband aerial goes up on a bracket matched to the roof and chimney, and the old one leaves with us.

Loft aerials
Thetford is close enough to Tacolneston that many houses can use a loft aerial. We test the signal in your roof space first, because foil-backed insulation, solar panels and tall trees nearby can all spoil it.

Extra TV points and Freeview Play
A conservatory, a teenager’s bedroom or a cabin at the end of the garden can all share the one aerial, split through an amplifier. Each set is tuned and has Freeview Play working when we leave.

TV wall mounting
TVs fixed safely to flint, brick, block or stud walls, with cables chased in or neatly boxed. We bring the right fixings for older walls as well as new plasterboard.

Communal TV aerials for flats
Blocks of flats on the estates and in the town centre often share one aerial system. We plan new ones and rework old ones so each flat is fed properly from a single, well-sited set of aerials.
TV reception in Thetford
Tacolneston, on Wymondham Road south-west of Norwich, is the main transmitter for Thetford. It lies to the east-north-east and brings the complete Freeview line-up, with BBC East and ITV Anglia for regional news. The town also has a relay of its own, fed in the Tacolneston group. It transmits the public service multiplexes and nothing else, so you get the main BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 services but not the full commercial line-up. It is vertically polarised, which is why some TV aerials in town stand with their elements upright.
If your aerial points at the relay and you are missing channels, it may be possible to switch to Tacolneston for the full list, though in some parts of town the relay is there because the main signal is weak. The Little Ouse valley runs through the middle of Thetford, and homes on the lower ground near the river, or close to the tall pines on the forest side of town, can need more height or a higher-gain aerial. We measure both options before fitting anything.
Older aerials designed for a narrow group of channels can miss multiplexes since the frequency changes of recent years. Mobile masts add 4G and 5G signals that can overload an amplifier and break up the picture at busy times. Swapping to a wideband aerial and fitting a 4G/5G filter clears up nearly all of it.

Kingsfleet and Thetford’s newest streets
Kingsfleet, on the edge of town, has consent for as many as 5,000 homes, going up phase by phase with several housebuilders. A typical handover leaves you with coax running to faceplates in the lounge and bedrooms, all ending in a bundle in the loft, and nothing on the roof to feed them. We put up the TV aerial or dish, identify each cable, join them to a distribution amplifier and prove every outlet on a meter. If you are buying off plan, it is worth asking the builder where the cables terminate, so the aerial can be connected without lifting floors.

Thetford questions
Where should a Thetford TV aerial be pointing?
Normally at Tacolneston, east-north-east of the town, for the full Freeview list with BBC East and ITV Anglia. Some homes use the local Thetford relay. We test both and recommend the better one.
Why do I only get the main channels?
Your aerial may be pointing at the Thetford relay, which carries only the public service channels. If your address gets a good signal from Tacolneston, we can realign or replace the aerial for the full list.
Would a TV aerial in the loft be enough?
In plenty of Thetford houses, yes, because Tacolneston is not far away. A meter test in the roof space confirms it before you commit.
We’ve just moved into Kingsfleet and the sockets are dead. Why?
Most likely there is no aerial yet, only cables waiting in the loft. We fit one, join the cables through an amplifier and check every room.
Which villages near Thetford do you cover?
Yes, including Barnham, Euston, Elveden, Croxton, Kilverstone, Brettenham, East Harling, Garboldisham and Mundford.
